LightSpeed: A Compact, High-Speed Optical-Link-Based 3D Optoacoustic Imager

Wide-scale adoption of optoacoustic imaging in biology and medicine critically depends on availability affordable scanners combining ease operation with optimal performance. Here we introduce LightSpeed: a low-cost real-time volumetric handheld imager based new compact software-defined ultrasound digital acquisition platform pulsed laser diode. It supports the simultaneous signal from up to 192 channels provides hig-bandwidth direct optical link (2x 100G Ethernet) host-PC for ultra-high frame rate image acquisitions. We demonstrate use system ultrafast (500Hz) 3D human angiography rapidly moving probe. LightSpeed attained quality comparable conventional systems employing bulky electronics Q-switched laser. Our results thus pave way towards generation compact, high-performance scanners.
